Around the “Block”

Wednesday, 25 June

How does one adequately describe Block Island, RI? Yes, it’s different. Certainly it is “special.” The Nature Conservancy has listed Block as one of “The Last Great Places” in the Western Hemisphere, so yes, it is special.

To experience that uniqueness to its fullest—the hills, harbors and homes, ponds and people, Bluffs, beaches, blooms and beautiful views—the decision was made to forego scooters and go pedal-power.

Here’s some of what was seen along the way, from New Harbor to Old Harbor, North Light to South Light and as much in between as these old knees could manage.  Enjoy!

Great photos. I presume you are off to Martha’s Vineyard. We are headed out with our granddaughters for a two day cruise shortly. Bob

Is Block Island the same same as Mohegan? I’ve been to Mohegan a couple of times but don’t think I’ve been to Block. What an incredible venture! Thanks for sharing it! Laura and I have been in Tuscany for the past week, Lucca. So great and a needed get away . Bob and Nancie’s wedding.

  4. Bruce on Allure here….
Went back and looked at your last trip “up here”. You have not been to Cuttyhunk yet, should consider it on your journey east. If you liked Block you will love Cuttyhunk. Unspoiled, no commercialization, everyone rides around in golf carts and very sheltered from the prevailing winds. View from the observation tower is breath taking. Check it out in the cruising guides. I will catch up with you in Dutch Harbor. Are you anchoring or mooring? Catch up with you tomorrow. Need anything for your 27 (I have two of them) one for sailing one for parts.

Hope you put together a book (booklet) upon your return, or while you’re relaxing in FL this winter. Some really beautiful photos….
