The rig howls, hull rocks and a heavy morning mist morphs to rain. There’s not much about this to encourage Steadfast to leave her slip at the Hampton Public Piers. Not much, that is, beyond the lure of reciprocity, i.e., a free slip, at Hampton Yacht Club.
There’d been some confusion yesterday, it seems, when a couple of calls to the club failed to secure dockage for the night. But, s’all good today. “Bravo-ten” awaits.
So, between showers, Steadfast slips her lines and is underway for the “crossing”…downstream less than half-a-mile to HYC for the night.
Maybe two, given NOAA’s call for a gale tomorrow. Even though it’s a short trip up the Elizabeth to Mile Marker Zero, gale force winds are more than recommended for a pleasurable day.
Besides, what’s the hurry? And after all, we are a bit closer to Florida. Aren’t we?
Steadfast out.
You’re absolutely right–what’s the hurry? Days at anchor/dock are pleasant too!! Plenty to read and write and fuss around making sure everything’s in order. The wind blows here too and it’s getting unpleasantly cool. Don’t worry, the sun will be out sometime soon and the winds more gentle for your traverse. We’re thinking of you and just know you’re going to have a great time in the South.
Thanks, Darlene & Willy! It always does our hearts good to hear from you. Thanks for your encouragement and for staying in touch. We look forward to being with you in the spring. Be well!
Sure is quiet at Ebb Tide since you left and we sure enjoyed having you. We miss you guys already but are looking forward to following your voyage south. Be safe and know you are missed!
We are heading out tomorrow with Poppy for a anchoring out somewhere in the Mobjack.
Fair winds . . . .

Hmmm… 7 days without a post. If I were a worrisome mom, I’d be on the search. Good thing… oh, wait! So, I’m pretty sure you were the sailboat responsible for the botched launch last night from Wallops Island!? Several of us were out on a hilly green in New Kent looking for a rocket’s red glare to no avail. We then heard there was a sailboat in the flight path and thought, “Bill and Kate!!” Kidding, we know you are farther south, if only Hampton. Hope all is well and you are underway soon, if you aren’t already! Great to see you both in person!

Out here in the wilds of eastern Carolina, internet service is not what it’s like in Virginia. We’ll try to catch up today now that we’re in the big city of Oriental! Happy Halloween!
I’m with Kelly . . . we’re addicted to your posts!!! Got you at 116 miles at the Shell Station AKA Alligator River Bridge. Enjoying beautiful fall weather at Ebb Tide. Found a pair of sailboat jockey shorts and an Ulman T-shirt in the cottage. Are you missing these?
